Activity Ideas Half-term Bucks

These are lovely local places to try. Charges do apply but they are not huge and will go to good causes.

1. Caldecotte Miniature Railway 

Run by The Milton Keynes Model Engineering Society (MKMES). The profits from the charges go towards the railway upkeep. It’s entirely volunteer-run. The younger ones love it and the older ones are quite fascinated in how it works.

Opening Times – 1pm- 5pm, Saturday 23, Sunday 24 & 31 October. 4.30-till late 30 October

Location – Back of the Windmill Pub, Lakeside Grove, Milton Keynes  MK7 8HP

Price – £1 a ride, twice round the track, under 2s free!

2. Buckinghamshire Railway Centre – Trick or Treat at The Railway

Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st October, from 10.30am

Activity – Find the Trick or Treat stations around the site and complete the activity sheet as you go. When you get to the Collection Station shout “TRICK OR TREAT” as loudly as you can to receive your treats!

Prizes – Family Steaming Day tickets for best-dressed costume uploaded Facebook or Instagram.  Photo must be taken on-site during your visit, tag @BucksRailCentre. The winner will be picked and posted the following week.

Note – Booked time slot is arrival time NOT train ride time. Train rides run all day, enjoy whenever you like and as many times as you like.

When? 30th and 31st October.

How much? Adult tickets £15.40 each, child 3-15 £11 each, other pricing options are available.

3. Stanwick Lakes

25- 31st Oct- Stanwick lakes. Booking is not required

This Hallowe’en, explore the Spooktacular trail. Earn your Witch or Wizard powers by helping The Stanwick Sorceress remember the spell for her magic potion. Use her ‘Book of Spells’ to follow the spooktacular trail and find all of the missing ingredients…but beware, it is Hallowe’en after all!

Activity – the family-fun trail includes spooky Hallowe’en decorations, hidden nature facts, and a look into Stanwick Lakes’ magical history. There are also fun live demonstrations on selected days.

Dressing up is of course encouraged but is optional.

Prices – purchase your ‘Book of Spells’ activity leaflet for £2.75 from The Snack Shack or Visitor Centre Reception.

Prizes – a spooky prize can be won by completing the trail (one prize for each leaflet sold).

Activities – adventure trail, gift shop, cafe, bike trails, adventure playground, assault course. Lots more!

Parking – £3.80 all day but double check when you arrive ANPR cameras so you won’t get away without paying.
