Barking Bags dog bag award

From Barking Mad to Barking Bags

It started with poo and now this dog bag is made by an award-winning business. From Barking Mad to Barking Bags, it sells brilliant multifunctional dog walking bags and accessories. Clearly one for the responsible dog owners.

This autumn, Barking Bags pet accessory business based in Milton Keynes won the Best New Business at the Pet Industry Federation (PIF) Awards.

How it Began

Debbie Greaves and her partner Rob Angell created the bag specifically to carry the paraphernalia that they needed when walking their dog, Maisie. Poo bags were jostling for position in pockets already bulging with doggie treats, balls, and hand gels. It was such an issue to find a space to carry the waste until the next bin that they decided to design their own. These dog walkers certainly were not going to hang the bags on trees or dump them in the hedgerows.

The Journey

Their journey began – to find a solution to create the best dog walking bag they could. It needed functionality, and style as well as being unisex. In addition, they wanted a bag that could be worn cross-body or as a bum bag. Think nappy bag – small enough to carry, even on short walks, and large enough to take the essentials. Finally, they designed a bag with space for everything you’d need on a dog walk. Everything you need to carry has its own special compartment including the little poo bags once their purpose is served!

Barking Bags was nominated in the three categories at the PIF (Pet Industry Federation) Awards at Whittlebury Hall Hotel. Winning Best New Business was a fantastic result for this company.

Debbie said:

“We have a range of high quality, water-resistant, unisex fabrics and also high-end luxury leather bags to choose from, but in response to customer demand, we also produce a vegan-friendly range as well. These allow you to carry all the essentials you need.”

Going Forward

Barking Bags owners, Debbie and Rob now have their sights on introducing a greater product range. This will include a smaller bum bag. They are also planning to increase production due to the demand.

Artisans in India make the bags while MK SNAP packages them. hat MK SNAP – a local charity working with adults with learning difficulties. They are weatherproof and suitable for any climate or environment.
